I would like to thank the Jefferson Awards selection committee for this honor.  Receiving the Roger Horchow Award for Greatest public service by a private citizen is the most humbling experience of my life. I can’t help but think, how can I hold a candle to the great works and genius of an award winning producer and bestselling author the likes of Roger Horchow or past recipients like Sally Ride, John D. Rockefeller, Walter Cronkite, Bob Hope, Jimmy Carter and Oprah Winfrey to name a few? They have all touched the lives of billions of people with their light and message.

I am just a simple Washington DC Police Major Crimes Investigator who saw firsthand the devastating effects crimes haves on the innocent and our communities. When I retired I vowed to do something about it. I’ve spent the last 23 years of my life educating kids and adults on the psychological deceptions most commonly used by the millions of criminal predators that currently live in our neighborhoods and  exist solely to abduct, manipulate, abuse or murder our children. We as a people cannot wait for the police to protect us from harm or some knight in shining armor to save us. We must save ourselves!

How do I begin to hold a light to Roger Horchow and past recipients? By following their lead. I too am an author. I most recently wrote and published the SuperBook of Family Safety. Already the public’s demand for this book is astronomical. It has exceeded our wildest expectations. Just by working within the safe and drug free schools and communities program in our nation’s public school system we have launched the greatest national public volunteer effort ever attempted. This initiative will activate over 50 million volunteer students doing community service. They will give free copies of the SuperBook to families and neighbors as part of our Safe and Healthier Communities initiative so together we can all form a strategy for self protection. This hybrid publication is the perfect tool to be used in a grassroots partnership between communities and sponsoring national brands who wish to show America’s families they care by supporting an invaluable resource guide that will save lives and prevent much heartache. This initiative will go on to reach hundreds of millions of Americans.

As I spoke earlier today with this year's recipients, I was moved to learn of the financial struggles to continue their service to the community knowing full well that most of them will be forced to abandon their efforts due to lack of financial support within the next year. It is my wish to use the revenues generated from the SuperBook to create a noble peace prize in the form of a mulit-million dollar endowment fund to generate grants for all future recipients of the Roger Horchow award and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Community Award recipients to help fund their public service efforts.

I accept this award on behalf of the millions of children who will be carrying forth this Super message of safety and on behalf of my personal staff who has kept me going at times when doors were slammed in our faces and it seemed people didn’t care. They are the ones that feed the flames of my tenacity. I learned to listen to what people say, but more importantly watch what they do. I have found there is truth in action. It’s the words that can deceive.

I would also like to thank my lovely wife of 32 years, Linda Fortunata, for supporting my volunteer effort through the ups and the downs.  My daughter Dawn, who’s birthday is today, for her volunteer support. My good friend, Major Leonard Doc Malinowski, President of the Good Knight Network, for his back breaking volunteer hours and support. And my Chief of Staff, Our Lady, Sophia Key West, who helped give birth to the passion within the SuperBook and who performs alongside me at the Good Knight Enchanted Kingdom every day. She also happens to be the mother of Michaela Victoria, SuperKid, who you will learn more about when you read her legend in the SuperBook.
