What does it take to prevent a sexual predator from abducting, molesting, terrorizing and worst yet murdering your child? Tougher laws? Some would say so. Punishment to fit the crime? Even more might say so. Registering the offenders so that communities know when a predator moves in close by? Still even more believe that is the cure. I say not entirely to any of them. Every method above is a very needed component to the predator puzzle, but not the "cure," not the SOLUTION. Read the first sentence again. "PREVENT"... it asks.
How do you prevent a child from getting hit by a car in the street? You teach the child to look both ways before crossing. How do you prevent accidental fires? Teach children not to play with matches. How do you prevent a child from getting the measles? Inoculations. Key word here is prevent. Education is prevention. Just like the immunizations your child receives for childhood diseases protects them, the awareness of the ten basic psychological deceptions criminals use to victimize, will blanket your child with an invisible shield of protection. We can't be with our children 24/7, but what we teach them follows them throughout their lifetime. After seeing our security film, ready at a moment's notice memory recall will "load" and if your child happens to find him or herself in a vulnerable situation they will know how to react. And they will react from empowerment, not freeze in fear. Predators look for two things when stalking their prey--vulnerablilty and opportunity. In order to raise our children to become independent, self reliant members of society we can't erase the opportunity factor, but we certainly have control over the vulnerability issue. Arm them with the shield of awareness---"The ABC's of Protection."
In the 22 years that the Good Knight "ABC's of Protection" have been actively taught we have found that the best way to deliver the message of the ten basic deceptions is through a 22 minute live action/part animation film. What the viewer experiences is multi-sensory learning by hearing the trick, seeing the trick acted out and spelled out on screen and by feeling the emotion of the actor and the viewer's own emotional response to the situation. This allows for memory recall drawing on many levels if the individual is ever presented with one of these situations in their lifetime. Simply listing the tricks on paper is not enough. It is a proven fact that not everyone learns the same way. There are those that are auditory learners, visual learners or experiential learners. The film covers them all.
The only way to beat a predator to the crime scene is to arm all children and their parents with the knowledge of these ten basic psychological deceptions that predators use to obtain their victims. In law enforcement lingo it is called "target hardening" when you educate the vulnerable and make them more aware. We encourage all families to obtain a copy of the film on DVD or VHS and watch it together as a family every 6 months to reinforce the message and keep the lines of communication open within the family unit.
We are currently in a race to get this information to children before the predators get to them. Please join us in this lifesaving race. I say lifesaving because even though not all predators murder their victims, the damage that is done, the innocence that is lost, is irreversible. Victims can spend many years in therapy, in turmoil, in depression, in denial and sometimes in victimizing others as it was done to them. Every child born to this earth has the unalienable right to retain his or her innocence and live protected from those who want to harm them.
The responsibility to protect our children falls on everyone in the nation. Children are our most valuable assets. If we raise a generation of children globally that grow to love and protect one another, maybe, just maybe we will someday live in a world where people don't fly planes into our buildings.
Please help us...help your children, help everyone's children!
In peace and protection,
Lady Sophia West
